Romney may decline to endorse Trump for 2020 President

On Friday Utah Send. Mitt Romney said in a report that he may decline to support Donald Trump for President in 2020, explaining, “I wouldn't be surprised if I stay out of the endorsements."

The 2012 Republican presidential nominee, who has not shied away from criticizing Trump, told reporters at his annual E2 Summit in the Utah ski-resort town of Park City that he doesn’t thing endorsements really matter anyway.

"I don't think endorsements are worth a thimble of spit," Romney said.

Romney in 2016 refused to support Trump, famously giving a speech in which he referred to the candidate as a “phony, a fraud." He said he later wrote the name of his wife, Ann, on that ballot.

After his election, Trump considered Romney for secretary of state, before choosing Rex Tillerson for the role.

Elected to the Senate from Utah last year, Romney – a former Massachusetts governor -- has been one of the president's fiercest GOP critics at times, though he's also supported Trump on some issues.

Romney said Friday he opposes Trump's proposal to impose tariffs on Mexico to force the U.S. ally to stem the flow of migrants.

"Punishing Mexico in some way is, in my opinion, a very bad idea. It's also expensive for Americans," Romney said.

The United States President Donald Trump’s decision marked a dramatic turnaround after he persistently criticized Mexico for failing to prevent Central American migrants from traversing the country to get to the U.S. The decision marks a victory for Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, whose administration had been pressing Trump to drop the tariff threat.

The deal preempts Trump’s planned 5% tariff on all Mexican imports to the U.S. that the president said could increase to 25% by October.

The decision was welcomed by Republicans and others who warned the tariffs would damage the American economy, hurt job growth and delay or altogether scuttle a trade deal between the U.S., Canada and Mexico, known as the USMCA, which still needs lawmaker ratification. Mexico is the second-biggest source of U.S. imports.

“Mexico came through,” said Senator Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican opposed to the tariffs, in a tweet soon after Trump’s announcement.

“I look forward to working with the administration and my colleagues in the House and Senate to pass USMCA without delay so that American companies and workers can reap the benefits of this updated and modernized agreement,” Representative Kevin Brady, a Texas Republican, said in a statement.

The joint statement released Friday said both sides would work together to “implement a durable solution.” Discussions will continue, they said.

The two countries said they’ll work to “to build a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration, so that citizens of the region can build better lives for themselves and their families at home.” The statement didn’t elaborate on how that would be accomplished.

Mexico said the deal was reached after several days of talks, including 12 hours of discussions on Friday.

Mexico’s foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, said the resolution was fair and balanced and that the U.S. originally had made more sweeping demands than were part of the final deal.

“We reached some middle point,” Ebrard said.

The tariff threat has rattled markets and prompted economists to forecast an increased risk of recession in the U.S., the world’s largest economy, because trade between the U.S. and Mexico is so integrated. An all-out trade war would lower global gross domestic product by 0.8% or $800 billion by mid-2021, according to Bloomberg Economics.

The number of apprehensions and people denied entry along the U.S.-Mexico border has been rising steadily. More than 144,000 people were apprehended after illegally crossing the southern border in May or were refused entry to the U.S., Customs and Border Protection announced on Wednesday. That’s the the most in a single month in at least five years; the number has grown every month since January.

Trump threatened the tariffs on May 30 -- the same day the administration sent a notice to Congress to try and kick-start passage of the USMCA, which Trump negotiated to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement. Vice President Mike Pence also spent that day stumping for the deal’s passage in Canada

An exceptionally cursed tweet, posted by a woman with "I'm a nurse" in her Twitter bio, claims that two women have been admitted to the hospital she works at after going into shock because they used a vacuum hose to end their periods early.

Now, this sounds quite made up – and it could be; it's just a viral tweet, not a medical paper – but it turns out that "menstrual extraction" really was once a thing. Originally intended for women who were unable to access legal abortions in the 1970s, the process involved a cannula and a syringe, which pumped the contents of your uterus straight out of you. Now, though, some women have supposedly decided to DIY it, replacing the medical equipment with the humble home vacuum cleaner.

I emailed the tweet to Dr Shazia Malik, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children in London. She called me back almost immediately to answer the all-important question: is putting a Dyson inside your vagina a good idea? (Reader, it is not.)

VICE: Hi Dr. Malik. So... it’s a bit of a weird one, isn’t it?Dr Shazia Malik: Yes, I'm completely surprised by it.

Have you heard of people practicing “menstrual extraction”?I’ve been working in obstetrics and gynaecology for over 20 years and I have never heard of it happening.

Okay, but could it actually work?No, it wouldn’t. Menstrual blood comes from the womb lining, so hoovering or putting anything in the vagina wouldn’t change the length of your period. The amount of blood that comes out would be the same as what you’d get on a tampon or pad. You can’t speed it up.

Would using a vacuum be unsafe?It would be completely unsafe. Not just unsafe, but downright dangerous.

What could happen to you?You could damage the surface of your vagina, and you could risk bleeding or infection. You can imagine the germs on the end of your vacuum cleaner and the power of its suction. You could end up with genital trauma. You could damage your cervix and end up in excruciating pain.

So, bottom line is, putting a hoover inside of you is always a bad idea?Yes! I would definitely caution anyone who is thinking about trying it.

US makes deal with Mexico on tariffs, immigration, US GOVERNMENT

The U.S. has reached an agreement with Mexico that heads off the start of tariffs on Monday, President Trump said in Friday night tweets.

"I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended," he said. "Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to....stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!"

Trump threatened Mexico earlier in the day tweeting "If we are unable to make the deal, Mexico will begin paying Tariffs at the 5% level on Monday!" Mexico was able to avoid these tariffs on farm and agricultural products, according to Trump's announcement.

 A flight attendant and her girlfriend covered in blood after a gang of men attacked them when they refused to kiss for them. The homophobic attack happened on a London bus as the couple returned home from an evening out last month. Ryanair worker Melania Geymonat, 28, from Uruguay, was left with a suspected broken nose while girlfriend Chris, from the US, was also beaten up. Melania, who lives in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, said they were sat at the front on the top deck because they enjoyed the novelty of the double decker bus. 

However, during the journey she claims a gang of young men behind them saw they were a couple and started to demand they kiss while making crude sexual gestures.

Melania said: ‘They wanted us to kiss so they could watch us. I tried to defuse the situation as I’m not a confrontational person, telling them to please leave us alone as Chris wasn’t feeling well.’ The men, who were in their 20s or 30s, began throwing things and the couple told them to stop during the attack on Thursday May 30. Melania added: ‘The next thing I remember was Chris in the middle of them and they were beating her. ‘I didn’t think about it and went in. I was pulling her back and trying to defend her so they started beating me up. ‘I don’t even know if I was knocked unconscious. I felt blood, I was bleeding all over my clothes and all over the floor. ‘We went downstairs and the police were there.’ Melania said there were at least four of them and one spoke Spanish while the others had a British accent. The attackers also robbed the couple before fleeing the bus. Melania, who moved to the UK in February and is on a year’s sabbatical from her medical studies, says she felt safe as a gay woman in London and was stunned by the attack.

She released the picture to raise awareness of violence against women and gay people. She is still waiting to find out if her nose was broken in the attack, which happened following a night out in Camden, north London. Melania said: ‘We were seen as entertainment, that’s what makes me so angry.’ She added: ‘What upsets me the most is that violence has become a common thing, that sometimes it’s necessary to see a woman bleeding after having been punched to feel some kind of impact. ‘I’m tired of being taken as a sexual object, of finding out that these situations are usual, of gay friends who were beaten up just because. ‘We have to endure verbal harassment and chauvinist, misogynistic and homophobic violence.’

Some Campaign group Stonewall pointed out that homophobic attacks were on the rise. They said that 16% of lesbian, gay and bisexual people had experienced a hate crime or incident in 2016. That compared to 9% in 2013 – a rise of 78%. Director of Campaigns, Policy and Research at Stonewall, Laura Russell, said: ‘This attack is an upsetting reminder of how much we still have to do for LGBT equality. ‘It’s tempting to think that in 2019, we are safe from attacks like these, and indeed we all should be. ‘But sadly, this isn’t the reality.’ They said government research showed two-thirds of LGBT people avoided holding hands with their partner for fear of attack.

They added that everyone needed to support the LGBT community. Ms Russell added: ‘We need people who believe in equality to take action and to come out for LGBT people. ‘If you want a society where everyone feels safe, do something about it today and support LGBT charities, communities and your LGBT friends and family.’ The Metropolitan Police confirmed they had started an investigation into the homophobic attack against Melania and Chris. A spokesperson said: ‘Police are appealing for witnesses and information after two women were assaulted and robbed in a homophobic attack on a bus in Camden. ‘The incident happened at approximately 02:30hrs on Thursday, 30 May after the two women, both aged in their 20s, boarded a N31 bus in West Hampstead. ‘As they sat on the top deck they were approached by a group of four males who began to make lewd and homophobic comments to them. ‘The women were then attacked and punched several times before the males ran off the bus. A phone and bag were stolen during the assault. ‘Both women were taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.’ Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information is asked to contact police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD737/30May. Hazard spent seven years at the Stamford Bridge scoring 110 goals in 352 games in all competitions. He was also instrumental to the Blues Europa League triumph over Arsenal last week having scored twice in the encounter.

After sealing his move away from the London club, Hazard said that: "Leaving Chelsea is the biggest and toughest decision in my career to date.

The 28-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Lille in a deal around £32 million in 2012, has just one more year on his current deal with the club. BREAKING : Rochas Okorocha receives certificate of return from INEC.

INEC ORDERED TO GIVE CERTIFICATE OF RETURN TO ROCHAS OKOROCHA. 

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to issue Certificate of Return to Rochas Okorocha as the duly elected Senator representing Orlu Imo West Senatorial district of Imo State.

Justice Okon Abang ruled that the decision to deprive Okorocha of the certificate was a “lawless.”

Abang held that only the returning officer of INEC had the constitutional authority to declare a winner.

He held that any person declared a winner by the returning officer remains a winner until petitioners succeed in upturning the declaration at the election tribunal.

The court further ruled that Mr Okorocha had no business being the originator of the petition at the election tribunal.

Justice Abang, who ruled that the federal high court had exclusive jurisdiction to decide on the matter, described INEC’s decision as “lawless and a complete nullity.”

The electoral body (INEC) had said it refused to give Okorocha certificate of return after the returning officer for Imo West senatorial district said he was compelled to declare Okorocha winner.

The Religious Preaching Regulation law, 1984 before the Kaduna State House of Assembly seeking substitution was on Friday passed into law

The passage of the bill came three years after the bill faced serious criticism from different religious bodies and individuals.

The bill, which purpose is to regulate religious preaching in Kaduna State with a view of promoting religious harmony and peaceful co-existence amongst the residents of the state was brought to the House since 2016.

Presiding over the plenary, the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagali while reading the bill close by close said a state inter-faith Regulatory council has been established with a chairman to be appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Secretary to the state.

Also, two members representing the Christian and Muslim faith, respectively, to be appointed by the Governor, among others.

According to the Speaker, the bill further has it that the above mentioned council shall hear and determine appeals brought before it arising from the decision of the local government inter-faith Committee and also has power to issue regulations considered necessary to guide the state inter-faith council and local government inter-faith committee in the performance of their functions under the bill if signed into law.

He further mentioned that the bill when signed into law, stipulates that in each of the 23 local Government areas of the state, a committee to be known as the Local Government Inter-faith Committee has to be established

According to him, the local Government Inter-faith committee shall consider and recommend to state Inter-faith Regulation Council all applications for the grant of licence to religious preachers as well as screen and recommend preachers for the grant of license among other functions.

The supplementary provision explained that all cassettes, compact disks (CDs), flash drives or any other communication gadgets containing religious recordings from accredited preachers may be played inside a private dwelling unit or vehicle, entrance porch (zaure), Church, Mosque and any other designated place of worship.

It further stated that any person who plays religious cassette or uses a loud speaker for religious purposes between the hours of 11pm to 4am in a public place, and uses a loudspeaker for religious purposes other than inside Church or Mosque commits an offence and shall on conviction be liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than two years or pay a fine of less than N200,000.00 or both.

The bill added that any person who publicly insults or seeks to incite contempt any religion, by making false statements in such a manner as to be likely to lead to a breach of peace, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than five years a fine of not less than N100,000.00 or both

German nurse convicted of murdering 85 patients; gets life

A GERMAN NURSE HAS BEEN CONVICTED FOR MURDER. 

Niels Hoegel liked to bring about cardiac arrests in his patients by injecting them with overdoses of heart medication and other drugs because he enjoyed the feeling of being able to resuscitate them. Sometimes he succeeded in bringing them back, but in at least 87 cases they died, making him what is believed to be modern Germany's most prolific serial killer.

A court in the northwestern city of Oldenburg on Thursday found the 42-year-old nurse guilty of murdering 85 patients, aged 34 to 96, and sentenced him to life in prison. He had earlier been convicted of two other killings.

"Your guilt is incomprehensible," presiding judge Sebastian Buerhmann said as he handed down the verdict. "I felt like an accountant of death."

Hoegel worked at a hospital in Oldenburg between 1999 and 2002 and another hospital in nearby Delmenhorst from 2003 to 2005, and the killings took place between 2000 and 2005, the dpa news agency reported.

Hoegel was convicted in 2015 of two murders and two attempted murders and is already currently serving a life sentence. There are no consecutive sentences in the German system, but Buerhmann noted in his verdict the "particular seriousness" of Hoegel's crimes, a finding that all but ensures he will remain incarcerated after the standard 15-year term is up.

During his first trial, Hoegel said he intentionally brought about cardiac crises in some 90 patients in Delmenhorst because he enjoyed the feeling of being able to resuscitate them. He later told investigators that he also killed patients in Oldenburg.

That prompted a wider investigation involving both hospitals, and police and prosecutors reviewed more than 500 patient files and hundreds more hospital records. They also exhumed 134 bodies from 67 cemeteries, and questioned Hoegel multiple times, concluding that he had used a variety of drugs to attempt resuscitation of his patients, and was fully aware they might die.

Prosecutors noted that many of Hoegel's victims were not terminally ill patients, but were on the path to recovery.

"The fact is sometimes the worst fantasy is not enough to describe the truth," Buehrmann said.

In all, Hoegel was tried in Oldenburg on 100 counts of murder, but the court found him not guilty on 15 counts for lack of evidence, which Buerhmann noted with regret to the family members present.

"We were not able to shine light through part of the fog that lay over this trial," Buehrmann said. "That also fills with a certain sadness."

Frank Brinkers, whose father was thought to have been killed by Hoegel, was one of those left wondering because the court could not definitively prove culpability.

"That is very, very bitter," Brinkers said after the verdict. "I have gone through hell and that is hard to bear."

Pleas are not entered in the German system but during the seven-month trial, Hoegel admitted to 43 of the killings, disputed five and said he couldn't remember the other 52.

Hoegel testified that he had a "protected" childhood, free of violence. He said his grandmother and his father, who were both nurses, had been his role models for going into the profession.

"Now I sit here fully convinced that I want to give every relative an answer," Hoegel said during the trial. "I am really sorry."

An expert testified during the trial that while Hoegel suffered from personality disorders, he was psychologically competent to stand trial and serve his sentence.

In his closing statement to the court on Wednesday, Hoegel reiterated his earlier apology, expressing shame and remorse, and saying he realized how much pain and suffering he had caused with his "terrible deeds."

"To each and every one of you I sincerely apologize for all that I have done," he said.

The Executive Order also reportedly prohibits the Ministry of Interior from giving visas to foreign workers whose skills are readily available in Nigeria.


However, consideration shall only be given to a foreign professional, where it is certified that such expertise is not available in Nigeria. It, also notes that where expertise is lacking, procuring entities will give preference to foreign companies and firms with a demonstrable and verifiable plan for indigenous development, prior to the award of such contracts. In the proclamation entitled ‘Presidential Executive Order 5 For Planning And Execution Of Projects, Promotion Of Nigerian Content In Contracts And Science, Engineering And Technology, President Buhari also reportedly directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies to engage indigenous professionals in the planning, design and execution of national security projects. It adds that ‘‘consideration shall only be given to a foreign professional, where it is certified by the appropriate authority that such expertise is not available in Nigeria.’’

On Wednesday the release of Quinnipiac university poll comes one day after a survey in Michigan indicated both Biden and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont – another leading Democratic nomination contender – both topping the president by double digits in potential general election matchups in the crucial battleground state.

In Texas, the Quinnipiac survey indicated Biden with a 48-44 percent advantage over Trump among Lone Star state voters.

The survey also suggested Trump holding a slight edge in hypothetical matchups with Sanders (48-44 percent); former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas (48-45 percent); South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (46-44 percent); Sen. Kamala Harris of California (47-43 percent) and former San Antonio Texas Mayor Julian Castro (46-43 percent).

The last Democrat to win Texas in a presidential election was Jimmy Carter in 1976.

"In historically red-leaning Texas, the report for the rest of the Democratic field is not so bad either, which could spell trouble for President Trump. It is the largest state in the country with a Republican edge,” Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director Peter Brown noted.

Michigan is one of three Rust Belt states – along with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – making up the traditional Democratic "blue wall" in presidential elections that Trump narrowly captured in 2016. The president edged out Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in Michigan by less than 11,000 votes out of more than 4.7 million cast, becoming the first GOP candidate to carry the state since George H.W. Bush in 1988.

The new poll in Michigan, conducted by The glengarrif group indicated both Biden and Sanders topping Trump by 12 percentage points among likely voters.

The survey also suggested Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Harris, and Buttigieg with single digit advantages over Trump in hypothetical general election matchups in Michigan.

“Democrats who turned out in large numbers in the 2018 mid-term — helping to generate the most state voters in a gubernatorial race since 1962 — remain highly motivated heading into next year’s presidential contest and complicate Trump’s path to re-election, said Glengariff Group pollster Richard Czuba.

A Quinnipiac survey in Pennsylvania released last month spotlighted Biden with an 11 percentage point lead over the president.

The new Quinnipiac University poll was conducted May 29-June 4, with live telephone operators questioning 1,159 Texas voters. The sampling error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

The Glengariff Group survey was conducted May 28-30, with 600 likely Michigan voters questioned by live telephone operators. The sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points
